ICAR-VPKAS, Almora Successfully Concludes RAWE Programme for Kumaon University Agriculture Students

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (ICAR-VPKAS) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme for 31 students from DSB campus, Kumaon University, Nainital. Spanning from November 20th, 2023 to February 28th, 2024, the RAWE programme marked a significant milestone in imparting practical agricultural education to B.Sc. (Agriculture) students of the 7th semester. This initiative aimed to expose young minds to the realities of hill agriculture, research, and extension activities. Under the coordination of Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh, Scientist, Nematology, the 31 participating students from Kumaon University delved into a comprehensive three-month training programme. Their objective was to gain first-hand experience in hill agricultural practices, understand rural agricultural systems, and contribute to sustainable agricultural development. Throughout the programme, students were immersed in various facets of agriculture, including crop cultivation, improvement, vegetable production, soil management, crop protection, secondary agriculture agri-preneurship, rural development, and technology transfer. Working closely with hill farmers associated with the institute and researchers, they gained invaluable practical insights.

Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director of ICAR-VPKAS, expressed his appreciation for the students' dedication and hard work during the programme. He underscored the significance of RAWE in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, nurturing a new generation of agriculturists and agri-professionals. During the closing ceremony, Dr. Lakshmi Kant congratulated the students and awarded certificates for their dedication. He encouraged them to continue their pursuit of excellence in agriculture, time management, setting high target and strive hard to achieve it. The institute remains committed to promoting similar educational programmes that enhance practical knowledge and sustainable agricultural practices.
